"How To Stream Video Without Killing Your Network"

Success Requires an Enterprise Content Delivery Network

Say the words “live video broadcast” to IT leaders and they are likely to cringe at the thought of having to stream video to hundreds or thousands of users, often relying only on the capabilities provided by existing network devices, and over wireless networks. And it’s not just live video: Video streaming of content including recorded meetings, training, Internet-connected devices, user-generated video, and content sourced from public repositories is exploding across public and private networks thanks to growing demand from end-users to be able to both access on-demand streams, as well as create and share their own video broadcasts from any endpoint. IT leaders must develop and implement a proactive strategy for supporting the ever-increasing flow of video across enterprise networks to ensure reliability and high-quality video performance, as well as to prevent streaming video from adversely impacting other applications. A core component of a successful video streaming strategy is an Enterprise Content Delivery Network (E-CDN). An E-CDN optimizes video delivery, minimizes bandwidth impact, and supports enterprise security policies. To create a successful video streaming strategy, one that won’t kill your network, IT leaders should:

  • Evaluate the use of video streaming within their organization, both today, and in the likely future
  • Determine requirements for supporting a wide variety of video streaming use cases ranging from town halls, to training, to IoT, to recorded meetings, to user-generated live and recorded video
  • Evaluate an Enterprise Content Delivery Network (E-CDN) to optimize streaming video delivery across the network
  • Evaluate alternative E-CDN solutions on their ability to support video needs, integrate with the existing network and video infrastructure, and provide a cloud-based delivery model to enable scale and rapid access to new features
  • Implement an ongoing management strategy designed to proactively support likely growth in video streaming.
