"PRWeek Crisis Comms Conference"

As much as the PR discipline evolves, managing crisis is a skill that will always be foundational to the sector. This inaugural event covers it from every angle -- and has so much for everyone.

Sixteen sessions. Thirty-eight industry-leading experts gracing the stage in our nation’s capital offering valuable counsel on a topic top-of-mind for every communicator. Sounds like an event you’d want to attend, right?

A standing-room-only crowd did just that on April 12, in Washington, DC, at the inaugural PRWeek Crisis Comms Conference.

We proudly present this eBook that not only captures the amazing content produced that day, but serves as a handy guide for PR pros in virtually every sector.

The media is a unique entity within this conversation as it simultaneously deals with intense crises of its own while also serving as an ultimate observer and commentator on how brands handle such situations. (The press is a crucial barometer for whether you get it right or not.) The conference’s first two sessions — the keynotes — featured leaders from that world who covered both those perspectives.

From there, the all-encompassing nature of the conference started to become crystal clear with sessions running the topical gamut. Pre-lunch conversations focused on real-time data, sports, space exploration, the most crucial period in crisis management (those first 24 hours) and one of the best weapons any entity can have to combat crisis — a cross-disciplinary response team (and how to put one together).

Appropriately, given the city that hosted the conference, the first post-lunch session dug deep into crisis management in government communications. From there, the focus shifted specifically to a word that has become synonymous with modern crises: misinformation. (AI was a prominent part of that conversation.)

We touched on stars (in space) in a morning fireside chat. In the afternoon, we focused on stars of a different kind — celebrities. And, unsurprisingly, there are a lot of crisis lessons to be learned from that world.

Permacrisis. handling situations on a global scale. Dealing with regulatory challenges (as communicators in sectors such as healthcare often do). Strengthening a crucial, but often overlooked relationship — that of PR and legal teams. Bringing creativity to crisis messaging. The gamut-running nature of this event remained on full display.

And the event closed with a conversation on the omnipresent topic of social media and how to manage related crises.

Like we said — something for everyone on a topic every single communicator faces. And you will benefit greatly from the counsel shared that day by downloading this eBook.
